Alexander Pushkin is a writer of legendary status in Russia with a colorful biography. This lesson will introduce Alexander Pushkin.

Lesson

1.Introduction: Ask the class if they can name the well-known Russian author whose great grandfather was African, who started publishing when he was fifteen, who lived part of his life in exile, who influenced Russian rebels for generations, and who died in a duel with his own brother-in-law. Write "Alexander Pushkin" on the board. Few authors have as interesting a biography as Pushkin, so researching him should be an interesting and rewarding experience.

2.Preparation for Group Work: Divide the class into six groups. Assign each of the following topics to a group: ancestry, life biography, biography of literary works, political biography, the final duel, and literary legacy.
