Create a Brain Model
Have students create a 3-dimensional model of the human brain showing each component. Students may choose to label the components with their primary functions.
News Article
Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the text and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the material.
Guest Lecturer
Invite a psychiatrist, psychologist, researcher, or other applicable professional to the class to speak. Students may choose to ask questions regarding the material from the book.
Psychiatry and Controversy
One of the psychiatrists in the book was cited for accepting sums of money from a popular pharmaceutical manufacturer and forced to leave his position. Ask students to conduct research to determine who this figure was and the controversies surrounding the case. Students should present their work...
