Objective
Eleanor & Park is a young adult novel by American author Rainbow Rowell. Set in Omaha, Nebraska, the novel follows protagonists Eleanor and Park, two teenagers who form bonds of friendship and love despite many obstacles. Eleanor & Park employs a split narrative from the perspectives of the two main characters. Objectives for this lesson include researching the author, analyzing the novel’s setting, and discussing the narrative style of Chapter 1.

Research Activity: Conduct research on the author of Eleanor & Park, Rainbow Rowell. How many novels has Rowell published? How many of these are within the young adult genre? What are common themes that appear in the author’s works?
Group Assignment: Assign students to groups of 3-4 each. As a group, conduct research as necessary and develop a visual project that depicts the setting of Omaha, Nebraska, in 1986. How large is Omaha? What is the weather...
