The novel opens at the US Open. Myron is a sports agent whose client, Duane Richwood plays in the Open. It is here that a murder of a tennis player takes place, and everyone involved with her becomes a suspect.

Myron is a Harvard law school graduate and works as a sport's agent. He has plenty of money, but drives a Ford Taurus because he is not pompous. He is, however, self-confident and cocky. He not only represents Duane's career, but when he is suspected of murdering Valerie, he becomes his attorney too.

Win comes from old Philadelphia money. He is exceedingly rich and has grown up in the country club lifestyle. He attended Duke University with Myron. He wears the clothing of the élite. He is blond and pretty and speaks with a snotty accent. He drives a Jaguar and his office is huge and decorated with expensive furnishings.
