Lesson

1. Homework. Students will research Anne McCaffrey and write a paper on her life especially as it relates to this book, but including other aspects of her life.

2. Class discussion. How did Anne McCaffrey's childhood and family affect her? What about her life made her the person she is as an adult? Why did Anne McCaffrey write this book?

3. Group Discussion. In small groups students will consider the following question. What would be the influence of Anne McCaffrey's views on life in the culture in which this book was introduced? How did did McCaffrey cope with the reactions to this book? What was her agenda for this book? Why did she choose to write fantasy/sci-fi?
