What parallels can you take from F'lars' suspension of the ancient traditions, and the traditions of the world today? How do you think the world could benefit from his example, or do you think that the world is better off following the ancient traditions of their cultures?

Essay Topic 2

Examine Lessa and F'lar's relationship. What do you think would have happened if Ramoth rose to mate with F'nor's Canth? Or Hath? How do you think this would have affected the outcome of the story? Do you believe Lessa's wild nature would have broken R'gul, or would R'gul have ruined Lessa? Why do you feel this way?

For each tradition F'lar broke, explain a possible reason why he did this. What does this say about his previous devotion to scripture and the traditions? Which do you think is more correct? Why?
