The objective of this lesson is to look at setting.

Lesson

1) Homework: Students will research China in the present time, especially as it concerns dams and flooding, writing a short paper on the physical, cultural, governmental, and economical aspects of the setting.

2) Class Discussion: Could this novel had been set anywhere? Would most of the situations in Dragon Bones have applied to any where in China in this era? How did the author make this setting unique? How did the setting affect the characters? The plot? The themes? Why is the setting important?

3) Group Work: In groups, students will research Chinese history around Yu's dynasty, discuss the similarities and differences between the present, and list the most important differences and similarities to present to the class.

4) Class Work: Students will write a short paper on how the town in which they reside...
