Lester Atlas

• Norman Paperman and his friend, Lester Atlas, arrive at the island paradise of Amerigo.

• Norman immediately falls in love with the island and wants to buy the Gull Reef Club on the island.

Janet West

• Norman meets Iris Tramm on the island and realizes she is the one-time actress, Janet West.

• Iris/Janet is a permanent fixture at the Gull Reef Club, living in the "Pink Cottage."

• Iris takes Norman on a tour of the island including a picnic. Iris's dog, Meadows, is with them.
• The solitude of their picnic is interrupted by the governor of the island, Alton Sanders.

• Although the usually unfriendly Meadows seems to like the governor, Iris does not seem to share those feelings.
