The objective of this lesson is to examine Susan's plans for family activities, and what the author communicates about expectations versus reality. Susan likes to get ideas for family activities from Family Frolic magazine. However, what she expects to happen rarely does.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Where does Susan get a lot of ideas for family activities? How many of the activities that she plans does Greg think are from the magazine? Does Greg think that the ideas in the magazine look like fun? Why does he think there is something wrong with his family? How does his family never measure up to the activities shown in the magazine? How is the image of a barbecue for Greg's family very different from what one might expect after seeing the image of a family barbecue in Family Frolic? What does the author communicate about expectations vs. reality?
