• Dear America: Notes of An Undocumented Citizen is a nonfiction memoir by Jose Antonio Vargas.
• The narrative of this memoir follows Vargas’s struggles as an undocumented immigrant in the United States following being smuggled here from his native Philippines at the age of 12, through his successful career in journalism, to his decision to go public about his citizenship status and bourgeoning career in activism and advocacy.
• The book is divided into three main parts: Part 1, “Lying,” Part 2, “Passing,” and Part 3, “Hiding.” Within each part there are several chapters, each titled individually regarding the subject of the narrative.
