History of Puppeteering

Have the students write a short research paper on the history of puppets and puppeteering. They should include the first puppets known to have been created; the types of puppets that are used in various cultures; the various purposes of puppets throughout time; and the use of puppets today.

Have an art teacher or local puppeteer give the students a lesson in puppet making.

Have the students research a small town in Russia that might be the inspiration for Vasenka. They should include when the town was established, why it was established, the culture of its people, important events, and unique qualities. They should then share their findings in a short presentation.
