Objective
N. H. Kleinbaum is the author of "Dead Poets Society." The aim of this lesson is to examine who Kleinbaum is and why she wrote the book.

Class Discussion: Use reference materials as needed. What other books has Kleinbaum written? What types of writing has she done? Does she write anything in addition to novels or books? Where does she live and how is her family described? What degrees does she hold? What is known about her childhood or life?
Activity: Divide the students into small groups. Have each group discuss the circumstances behind the writing of "Dead Poets Society." Use research as necessary. Was the movie released before the book? When was Kleinbaum asked to write the book? Had she ever seen the movie? What were some of the challenges the author had when writing the novel?
