Objective

The idea that a man who is going to kill another man doesn't know anything about his victim is a dark one. Today's objective is to talk about what students feel about being told to kill a man and then not knowing who the person is. Does it matter?

Lesson

1. Have students discuss their initial impressions of Elisha, or the boy/man who is at the start of the story.

2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether they think they could ever kill a person. Why or why not?

3. As a class, have the students decide whether or not they think the idea of killing a man would be made harder or easier by knowing who the person was. Why or why not? What are some justified reasons for killing a person? Does the entire class agree?
