Objective

"Daughters and Rebels " by Jessica Mitford is a memoir, which is a subclass of the autobiography genre. This book is an example of a memoir because it tells the story of a time in someone's life. This lesson discusses the genre of the work.

Lesson

1) Library research: a) Have students research the memoir genre. What are the characteristics of a memoir? What is the difference between a memoir and an autobiography? Why is "Daughters and Rebels" considered a memoir? Have students write a short report on the genre and why this book is considered an example of this genre.
