Daughter of the Mountains is a novel by Louise S. Rankin which follows the journey of a young Tibetan girl named Momo in her search for her stolen Lhasa Terrier across Tibet and India. First published in 1948, the novel received the Newbery Honor in 1949 and remains a young adult classic today. In this lesson, students are introduced to the book, and they will research its author Louise S. Rankin and illustrator Kurt Wiese.
