Draw a Character
Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the novel. Artistic ability is not important, but their drawings must reflect the type of costume worn by the character, whether the character is fat or thin, young or old, etc. What colors do the characters wear?
News Article
Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the novel and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the novel.
Costume Day
Give students an opportunity to research the style of dress worn by the characters in the novel and create (with parents' permission) a costume which reflects the cultural and regional setting.
