Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is understand the setting of Daughter of the Deep. The setting of Daughter of the Deep is southern California and, initially, the Harding-Pencroft school. Very quickly the setting focuses on the Varuna, a HP ship off the coast of southern California.

Class Discussion: Have the students answer the following questions: What is the setting of Daughter of the Deep? Why is this important? How does Rick Riordan's descriptive language aid the reader in connecting with the setting?
Small Group Activity: Split the students up into small groups and have them analyze a particular part of the setting from this section of the book and answer the following questions: Which part of the setting have you chosen?
