Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1 – 5)
Objective
This lesson introduces students to Roald Dahl’s children’s novel: Danny, the Champion of the World. Students will research the author, read Chapter 1, and analyze the narrative style of the book. Danny, the Champion of the World is a 1975 novel that follows Danny, a nine-year-old boy who lives with his father. Danny narrates the story from his first-person perspective and establishes in the first chapter that he adores his father.

Group Activity: Assign students to groups of 3-4 each. As a group, read Chapter 1 of Danny, the Champion of the World and discuss the information related in the chapter. Who is the main character of the story? What information is related about this character?
