Movie Time

Show some or all of the film version of this book in class. You could include candy boxes and popcorn for effect. Discuss with the class which parts fit their idea of the narrative while reading it.

Sailor Collages

There are many sailors who play minor roles in this book. Have the students choose one of these sailors and create a collage of what role they played in the plot. Note the differences in the displays of the same characters.

Chapter Titles

Each of the chapters in this book has a unique and fitting title. Split the class into groups, and assign each group one of the titles. Have that group create a title page for their assigned chapter.

Foreign Accents

There are many different accents present in this book. Have the students choose one of these, i.e. English, Russian, Swedish, Finnish, French, Portugese, Spanish...
