Puppet Show

Create puppets using the materials of your choice to represent your favorite characters from this collection. Then put on a short show for the class, re-enacting your favorite scenes.

Interviews

Imagine that a reporter has come down South to interview one of the characters from this collection for the newspaper. Create a list of 10 questions that the reporter might ask them, and imagine the character's answers.

Poetry

Many artists have written beautiful poetry about the South during the Civil War. Choose one scene or emotion in the novel and write a poem that evokes that feeling.

Soundtrack

Create a CD soundtrack of 10 or mores songs that you think would be appropriate choices for certain scenes if this book were ever made into a film. Create a list of songs and their corresponding scenes, and bring them to class with a brief explanation of each selection.
