This character leaves a military hospital without permission to return home to Cold Mountain. This character travels alone, on foot to return home to the person this character hopes to one day marry. During this journey, this character meets many colorful people, including one man who sells this character to the Home Guard, a group of immoral men who eventually shoot and kill all their prisoners, although this character manages to survive. This character eventually returns to Cold Mountain only to be killed while attempting to save two women and a wounded man from the Home Guard.
