Close Range: Wyoming Stories is a collection of short narratives by the author Annie Proulx. The collection explores themes of identity, betrayal, and love set in rural Wyoming. The most acclaimed of the stories is Brokeback Mountain, which was adapted into a 2005 award-winning film. Annie Proulx is an American journalist and author who won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her novel, The Shipping News, in 1994. In this lesson, students are introduced to the author and book, Close Range: Wyoming Stories.
