Objective
Students will meticulously analyze the many different elements of the cover art included with the narrative of Cleanness in order to deepen their understanding of the connection between the work's themes and the cover art that is chosen by Greenwell to underscore these themes.
Visual literacy is a very important skill to foster in today's world and the vivid artwork featured on the cover of Cleanness provides an excellent opportunity to teach students skills in visual literacy. One edition of the book features a photograph by Mark McKnight of a disembodied male torso. In several interviews, Greenwell has explained how important it was to him to use imagery for the cover of Cleanness that connects to the subset of people about whom he writes.
