This character is initially introduced as lot 97 and will use different names throughout the novel. The character is kidnapped by slavers at the age of three. This character is bought at a slave auction at a very small price by a crippled beggar. The cripple teaches this character in the trade of begging as well as in more traditional subjects such as languages, math and history. This character is a very good judge of who to trust and who not to trust.

This character appears to be merely a simple beggar when first introduced. This character chooses the life of a one-eyed, one-legged beggar as a cover for his/her covert operations, but the reader is left to wonder about what these covert operations actually are through most of the book.
