Lesson 1 (from Prologue - Part 1: Chapter 4)
Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine allusions and how they are used in the novel. In 1, an illusion is made to famous painters in order to describe the importance of finding The Place of Eighteen Perfections. An allusion is a figure of speech that does not directly refer to a person, place, thing or it is an idea that is significant. An allusion does not describe in detail what it refers to. Readers are expected to have background information about an allusion and know why it is important in a fiction or non-fiction work.
