Essay Topic 1
Carolina writes of the topic of racism in many of her diary entries. Racism occurs not only between blacks and whites but between other races as well. Write an essay that details some of the racist issues and events that occur within the walls of the favela. What are some of the different races that can be found in the favela? How do the conflicts impact the citizens of the favela? Why do such events occur? How do race relations evolve over the course of the book? Explain your rationale by providing examples from the book.
