Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine Everardo's beating by the Mexican police, and what is communicated about the abuse of power. The Mexican police set up a roadblock that Everardo encounters. Then they use their power to extort money and beat Everardo.

Class Discussion: What time are Everardo and his family driving back to the U.S.? Why do they have to stop? What do the police want from Everardo and his family? Where do they make Everardo drive? What happens there? What happens when Everardo and Turtle try to repack the car? When do the officers start beating Everardo? How ruthless is the beating? How do the police abuse their power by extorting money and beating Everardo?
