Lesson 1 (from Prologue to "Veiled Birds," Chapter 6)

Objective

The objective of this lesson is to examine why Konrad and Hiroko had to downplay their relationship in public, and what is revealed about traitors, and how suspicion of treason affects their relationship. Konrad was a German and was a suspect after the Germans surrendered. Hiroko was known as the traitor's daughter. They did not want to draw attention to their relationship and invite scrutiny.
