Have the students use the description in the book to create a work of art (drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, etc.) that represents the town and/or its people in the story.

Street Performers

Have the students watch a performance, either live or online, of street performers. They should write a short essay describing the performance, how impressive the performance was, and the audience's reaction to the performance. They should then compare this performance to that of the performances of the siblings in the story.

Have the students write a short research paper on possible injuries that can occur during pregnancy. They should then make an educated guess, based on this information, as to what happened to have caused Rufina's injured hip during labor.
