Subverting Daley--role playing game

1.Group Activity--Role playing: The class is participating in a Role Playing game to reelect Daley (the teacher) as mayor.

Separate the class into different groups:

Daley supporters that need additional trash pick-up.

Democrat councilmen who support Daley.

Cook County Ward Committee members who owe everything to Daley and will count votes for the upcoming election for Daley.

Daley critic that needs potholes in street repaired [only one or two students].

Independent and Republican city council members who are trying to defeat Daley in elections only [two students].

Tell the class that it is going to have an election for Daley. The Teacher is Daley. Have the students meet in small groups to develop strategies for influencing the election. Part of the group strategies can involve meeting with other groups to attempt to win support for their causes.
