Lesson
1) Class Discussion: Write a definition of "savant" on the board: A savant is defined as a person who is wise and has scholarly knowledge. The class will discuss the meaning of "savant" as it applies to Daniel Tammat, based upon the reading of Chapter One. In what ways is Daniel a savant? How is he scholastically different from the average human being? Give specific examples from the chapter.
2) Small Group Discussion: Put the class into groups of four or five. Based upon the definition of a savant as it applies to Daniel, have the groups discuss Daniel's savant-like abilities. Students will decide what scholastic area they would...
