• Booked is presented as a series of one- to two-page poems, written from the perspective of a young boy named Nick Hall, who is passionate about the game of soccer.
• Nick’s mother is a horse trainer and his father is a linguistics professor.
• In the opening poem Gameplay, the narrative describes a soccer player dodging through defenders in a game he could play “far into night” (1).
• In different words in lines throughout the poem, the letters S-O-C-C-E-R are capitalized and bolded to make the poem an acrostic that gestures to the sport.
• The second poem, Wakeup Call, describes the main character waking up to the sound of his parents fighting, after staying up playing FIFA online with his best friend Coby.
