Blind Tasks
Clear the center of the room and have four students blindfolded. Then, introduce items into the center and ask the blindfolded students to perform a rudimentary task as a group (make sandwiches with assembled materials, find your backpacks among a pile of the entire class's) while the rest of the class observes. After the task is accomplished, clear the space and blindfold another four students for a new task.
Frontline Real World Crisis
Watch all or part of the Frontline documentary Cheney's Law (available at www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/view). Be sure the students see both sides of the debate over the former vice president. Some argue that faced with the reality of 9/11, Cheney made a decision to protect American lives at any cost. Some argue he used the attacks as an excuse to consolidate executive power and silence dissenting views.
