The Assault

"Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern Warfare" is a non-fiction book by journalist Mark Bowden which describes the Battle of Mogadishu of October 3, 1993. The Battle of Mogadishu was part of Operation Gothic Serpent and was fought in Mogadishu, Somalia, between forces of the United States supported by UNOSOM II and Somali militia fighters. In this lesson, students are introduced to the book and will research its author and the events leading up to the Battle of Mogadishu.

1) Teacher Lecture: Introduce the students to the book and author. "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern Warfare" is a non-fiction book by journalist Mark Bowden which describes the Battle of Mogadishu of October 3, 1993.
