Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1 - 20)
Objective
This lesson introduces students to Louis de Bernières’s epic novel Birds Without Wings. Students will research the book and author, read Chapter 1, and analyze the narrative style of the work. This novel, set in the fictional town of Eskibahçe in Anatolia and focused on the waning years of the Ottoman Empire, is related from a number of different perspectives and weaves an expansive and intricate web of characters and points of view.
