Objective

Chapter 1 introduces the characters of "The Bingo Palace" and likens them to animals. The objective of this lesson is to analyze the animal imagery.

1) Class discussion: Who is introduced in this chapter? What is the relationship between these people? What imagery is used to describe Lulu? What animal is used to describe Lipsha? What animals are used to describe the rest of the characters? Why do you think the author chose to use animals to describe these people? How are the animals compared to one another? Are some animals valued more over others? What traits seem to be desirable?
