Role play
In the book's first section, Hofmiller accepts an invitation to the home of Herr Kekesfalva for dinner, and the reader sees how different the social customs of the time were from today's customs. Have a few students volunteer to take part in a role play. Have the participants select a typical event from their lives, such as a birthday party, and conduct a 5-minute extemporaneous play in which they extend and respond to the invitation as it was done in the book.
Jeopardy
Play a game of Jeopardy with questions about "Beware of Pity". Divide the class into two groups and have each group write a series of questions. Have each group choose a moderator and three contestants. The moderator from Group A quizzes the contestants from Group B, then reverse the process.
