Objective
At the beginning of the book there are notes about the author and a page titled "A Chronology of Maria Edgeworth." The objective of this lesson is to discuss the impact of an author on a literary work and on the reader.
Lesson
1. For class discussion: Ask students if they've heard of this author prior to reading this book. Ask if students pay attention to the author's name when choosing a book? Make students aware of name recognition in marketing and point out that readers expect different things from different authors.
2. For class work: Have a students make a list of five modern-day authors and five authors who released work at least a century ago. For each, ask the class to say what they'd expect from that particular author.
