• The following version of this book was used to create this Lesson Plan: Obama, Michelle. Becoming. Crown Publishing, 2018.

• When Obama was a child, her aspirations were simple: she wanted a dog, a house that had stairs, and a four-door station wagon instead of the two-door Buick that her father owned.

• Obama was ambitious, though she did not know exactly what she was shooting for career-wise.

• So far in her life, Obama has been a lawyer, a vice president to a hospital and the director of a nonprofit that helps young people build meaningful careers.

• Obama has also been a working-class black student at prestigious, predominantly white schools, as well as the only woman and the only African American in many different types of social and professional scenarios.
