Part One: September
- This lesson plan is made using the following version of this book: Because of Mr. Terupt. Rob Buyea. Yearling, published by the Penguin Random House, 2010.
- Part one is made up of six months: September, October, November, December, January, and February.
- Each month is told in eight parts by eight different students in Mr. Terupt's classroom: Peter, Jessica, Luke, Alexia, Jeffrey, Danielle, and Anna.
- Students speak of the events of the novel in the past tense for the most part, but make commentary on what happens in the present; bullet points will indicate tenses, and where changes occur.
- This section is titled "September" and begins in Peter's voice.
- Peter recounts his theory that when you get a new teacher, you can get away with breaking the rules.
- Peter says that when their new teacher, Mr. Terupt, came in, Peter...
