The objective of this lesson is to discuss the Wang family's decision to immigrate, and what is conveyed about immigration. Qian's father struggled with the constructions on free speech in his classes. He decided to immigrate to the U.S.

What experiences did he have as a child that might have made him resent the rules and regulations in China? What was behind his decision to immigrate? Why did he go to the U.S. first? How did his absence affect the family? How long did it take for Qian's mother to be able to get a visa for the two of them? Why was it so difficult to be able to get visas? What was the journey to America like...
