· When her father was four, he was shooting a toy gun at birds as he walked to the town square.

· At the square, he saw the shapes of two men hanging from a tree.

· It was 1996 and China’s Cultural Revolution had just begun.

· Three years later when Wang Lao Shi was seven, his eldest brother was arrested for criticizing Mao Zedong in writing.
