Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to identify and examine the author's tone (or attitude toward the subject). Students will identify words and phrases the author uses to demonstrate her tone.
Lesson
Class Discussion: What is the author's attitude toward privilege? How does she define it? What personal example does she use to illustrate how privilege is relative and contextual? What does she say is the more difficult part of privilege and yet, what does she assert that people must do when it comes to privilege?
Group Assignment: Assign students to groups of three or four and have each group identify five to ten key words, phrases, or examples, that the author uses to support her perspective on privilege and the reasons people must acknowledge it.
