Create a Map
Create your own representation of the map depicting the battle of Yorktown in the beginning of the book. Make a flat map with crayons, markers, or colored pencils; alternately, make a three dimensional map using clay and other materials. Use the map to trace the characters' paths as you read the book.
Act Out a Scene
Choose a scene from Ashes and write a script based on the dialogue in the book. Act out the scene with a group.
