Objective
This lesson introduces students to William Faulkner’s As I l Lay Dying. Students will research Faulkner and the novel’s publication; read the first three chapters; and identify the genre, narrative style, and setting of the novel. As I Lay Dying, published in 1930, is a novel by American author William Faulkner. The novel chronicles the death of Addie Bundren and the subsequent journey to bury her corpse in her family's cemetery several miles away. This disastrous and darkly comic tale is enriched by Faulkner's innovative narrative technique, which features narration by 15 characters.
