Objective

Objective: Chapter 1 The students will take notes from a teacher lecture about James Joyce and the novel itself in terms of early 20th century politics in Ireland and the world. The student will enter into a discussion entitled "What Is Art?"

1) Classroom activity:
1. The teacher delivers a prepared lecture about James Joyce, his history, and his contribution to literature. In addition, mention should be made about how difficult it was to get the novel published. The lecture must also include the themes of conscience, art, being, and feeling that were emerging as the center of Western culture of the day. Emphasis must also center around the stream of consciousness style Joyce uses in the novel.
