Objective: In Part 1, Page 1-34, author John Steakley introduces a science fiction story beginning with scout Felix leaving for planet Banshee. Science Fiction is a literary or cinematic genre in which fantasy, typically based on speculative scientific discoveries or developments. The objective of this lesson is to examine how the writing style of this section reveals the genre of this book as science fiction.

1) 1) Class Discussion: What is science fiction? Begin with a discussion of this popular genre. Identify elements of science fiction in this chapter. There are two worlds introduced in the first chapter. They are the world where Felix is and the world of Banshee. What does the author reveal about the characters in these settings that immediately introduces the element of science fiction? What elements of the story line are full of fantasy? Discuss.
