Objective
In the first chapter, Georgia's poor self-image is established. The objective of this lesson is to examine the reasons for her lack of self-esteem.
Lesson
1) In-class writing assignment: In one to two paragraphs, have students answer the following questions: How does Georgia feel about herself? Is there anything about herself that she likes?
2) In-class group work: Divide students into groups of three or four, and have them answer the following questions: What do you think caused Georgia's lack of self-esteem? Societal pressure? Her family's influence? The media?
3) In-class discussion: In addition to discussing the work students did in groups, have them answer the following questions: How long has Georgia felt this way about herself? Was there ever a time when Georgia had a positive self-image? What changed that caused her to be so self-conscious? Do you think her image of herself is accurate? Why or why...
