Lyman is looking to the past for answers for his present. Students will learn the meaning of genealogy and methods for researching family histories.
Lesson
Family Tree Activity: Have the students create templates for Family Trees. Make one for each student and fill them out together, beginning with the student's full name. Have them fill out as far as they know and put it aside as homework for that evening. Now create a family tree for Rodman Ward and have the students find the names as far as available in the book. Save this tree and add to it as more information becomes available. Discuss what Lyman expects to find in his research and what each student could find by researching their own past.
