Ongoing Class Blog

One of the central motifs in Americanah is the "blogging" world and Ifelemu's blog, "Raceteenth." Set up a blog for the class and ensure that each student contributes at least one blog post. Posts are open to discussions about race, culture, ethnicity, gender, and other themes in the novel. Encourage students to read and comment on their peers' posts.

Conduct research on the history of Nigeria and develop a presentation for the class that discusses the government, ethnicities, languages, economy, and culture of the nation. How is the wealth of Nigeria distributed and how is this distribution reflected in Americanah?

News Article

Look in your local newspaper or archives for an article that involves some aspect of the novel and bring it to class. You will present it in front of the class and explain how it relates to the novel.
